Story:

3 is the love story of Ram [Dhanush] and Janani [Shruthi Hassan] that starts at their 12th standard. The pair continues their relation that ends with the misfortune after their marriage. The beginning of the film starts with the tragedy and the movie goes by means of explaining about the past.

Flashback is the real beauty of the film. How did love blossoms between Ram and Janani? How did Dhanush manage to marry Janani? What is the tragedy that changes their way of living? Forms the crux of 3…

Performances:

Dhanush, the national award winner has to be appreciated for showing variations in his performance, as a teenager, elderly man and a Businessman. Dhanush’s performance in the second half should be specially applauded.

Shruthi Hassan has given her best as teenager, particularly with her two plots make audiences go gaga on her, but could have shown better variation in an elder character. Siva Karthikeyan could have given more scope.

Prabhu, Bhanupriya and Rohini were apt choices to play the parents of the lead pair. Sunder Ramu could have done better in the Senthil role.

Technical Analysis:

Coming to technical crew, debutant director Aishwarya has proved her determination and seems to have impressed the audiences with her first film 3.

Velraj used different tones to capture the emotions in the first and second half, and shown his notable camera work in every scene. Anirudh Ravichander has already stepped high with the ‘Why this kolaveri di’ track and tried hard to give his best background scores for 3.

Oscar winner Resul Pookutty is one of the highlights of the film, who has given perfect sound effects, which has taken Anirudh’s music to next level. Kola Bhaskar’s editing is better in first half, when compared with many frames after the break.

Analysis:

Dhanush is perfect fit for the role of Ram. Aishwarya R Dhanush has proved her direction skills with the debutant venture 3, who has also written the script. The background scores of Anirudh Ravichander should be specially mentioned that have lifted the movie to a step higher along with Oscar winner sound engineer Resul Pookutty.

Aishwarya could have more concentrated on the second half of the film, as it takes audiences totally on an emotional journey, where she tried to address 'Bipolar Disorder', that means a person experiencing abnormally elevated energy levels, cognition and moods. First half makes every individual revolve around their beautiful teenage. However, second half though shows good performances of Ram and Janani on screen, the bad handling of the bipolar disease scenes and the lengthy climax plays the spoilsport. The second half looked unnatural and end up on a disappointing note.

Final Verdict:

Tragedic melodrama…
