Dhamarukam Movie Review

Film: Damarukam
Rating:3/5
Starring: Nagarjuna,Anushka,Prakash Raj
Director: Srinivasa Reddy
Producer: Venkat
Banner: RR Movie Makers
Music: Devi Sri Prasad

Story:

Malli (Nagarjuna) is an auto driver who falls for Maheshwari (Anushka Shetty) who was born with supernatural powers. Andhakasura (Ravi Shankar) the left out survivor in the Suras and Asuras battle comes to know that he would conquer the panchabhuthas if he marries Maheswari, that too with her own wish. Andhakasura changes his avatar and enters Maheswari house. How Malli saves her from Andhakasura forms the crux

Performances:

Nagarjuna is mesmerizing as usual and has taken ample care for the role to get into the skin of the character. His six-pack and Aghora characters are refreshing and perfect.

Anushka is gorgeous on-screens and the story revolves around her character but the actress has limited role. Her chemistry with Nagarjuna rocked and the songs are a visual treat.

Ravi Shankar has rocked the screens with his evil role. His diction and dialogues are perfect, he looked extremely villainous. He has amazing screen presence that he overshadowed Nag in few scenes. Prakash Raj is not apt as Lord Shiva though he delivers as a performer, Brahmanandam is hilarious, Ganesh Venkataraman leaves his mark. Others are adequate.

Technical Analysis:

Music by Devi Sri Prasad is an asset for the film. While the songs were ear-pleasing, the back ground score elevated the scenes. Situational song Siva Siva Shankara is great on-screens. Chota K Naidu cinematography is fine and DI work, color grading and images are good. Editing by Gautham Raju is inconsistent. Production values are lavish.

Analysis:

Damarukam boasts off its lavish technical values, the Vfx works are amazing while the story has interesting plot though it somehow reminds you of the Pathala Bhairavi and Bhaiarava Dweepam storylines. The second half has thrilling moments and the last half an hour is the real asset. Brahmanandam, Krishna Bhagawan MS Narayana did comic roles but the director should have taken much care on comedy elements and etching of characterizations. Devi Sri Prasad’s music, VFX works and Ravi Shankar as Andhakasura are major assets of Damarukam. The core scenes related to the story involving Nagarjuna, Ravi Shankar have come out well.

Srinivas Reddy has come up with an interesting plot and has executed well but the screenplay is quite predictable in the movie. Damarukam has a great style but less substance.

Final Verdict:

A decent entertainer, but could have been much better
