Vasuki's mother logged in to the internet to check on the other contestants. When she read about them she became a little sceptical. “Each contestant was better than the other. I was confident about Vasuki but then there is luck factor as well,” says Vasuki Sunkavalli's mother Prabha talking to us hours after her daughter won the coveted crown.
Vasuki Sunkavalli is crowned Miss India 2011 and will be competing for the Ms Universe title in August in Brazil. Relaxed and set to come to Hyderabad, Vasuki says, “The feeling has sunk in well and I am little relaxed now, though I am preparing for the Ms Universe pageant. At the moment I am looking forward to coming to Hyderabad to meet my family and friends.”
Talking about her ‘on-stage' experience while the second and first runner's up were being declared Vasuki says, “I entered the contest like a winner. So didn't prepare myself to lose. I cannot say what exactly my feeling were when the runner's up title were being declared. When I was declared Ms India, I was only more than pleased and thankful. I don't remember who I spoke to after coming down from the stage, but when I could get hold of my cell phone, I called my dad.”
How does the road ahead look like? Will she sign movies? “I cross the bridge to be on the other side. I don't plan my journey. I take life as it comes,” says Vasuki.
Back home, Vasuki's family is all prepared to welcome her. “It is euphoria. People in our village are more excited and there are celebrations there. In Hyderabad we are only looking to meet friends and well wishers,” says Prabha.
Talking about her daughter, Prabha says, “Vasuki always wanted to do things which made her stand out from the rest. Being a Leo she wants her name to be taken with respect, so she made sure she completed her studies. Vauski is a Law graduate and has topped in her studies as well. She makes us proud all over. While this is so, Vasuki is very humble and doesn't like talking or bragging about her achievements. She gets annoyed even when we do it.”
A back packer and an avid traveller, Vasuki loves travelling and exploring new places. Vasuki's mom says, “As far as food habits are concerned, she was never a choosy eater. She loved her fried stuff, but thanks to good genes she has been able to stay fit. But now she cannot go on such binge drives.”
